During summer, besides enjoying the outdoors, I enjoy facilitating groups at the challenge course that the Outdoor Recreational Dept. at UTEP offers. During such course, groups participate in team building challenge initiatives and a high ropes course. I give credit to UTEP's Recreational Sports Dept. for the following:
Team-building Challenge Initiatives are experiential activities designed to allow a group to take an intentional look at the dynamics within the group. Teams are encouraged to investigate different styles of communication. Identify how decisions are made. Choose to take on various roles and responsibilities within the group. Participants are encouraged to explore different leadership styles. As well as, how their individual leadership style affects the group.
High Ropes Course is an exception tool that allows a group to experience first-hand how important trust is within a team. Group members are encouraged to explore various roles as a team member. Roles experienced during the course vary from a lead person attempting a 20’ high element. To primary or back-up member of a support team responsible for the safety of a team member high above the ground. Individual team members choose all roles they take on during the experience.
